Day Six- MO/IL
We left St. Louis around lunch time after taking a walk around the Gateway Arch. It took us a while to find Route 66. It was decommisioned in the 1980's by the federal goverment and so each state took over sections and renamed it. We finally found some historical markers and were on our way!
We were standing on the original 1920's Road! Some sections of the original highway were either repaved into a bigger highway, turned into an interstate, or bypassed all together. We stayed on the 1920-1933 roads and saw the 'Mother Road' in all its glory! We would find old sections of the road across the ditch from the actual highway. There would be bridges (which you couldn't drive over) that had plaques telling of its importance. We can't stress how awesome it is to stay off the interstate and really see America! In Illinois alone, there are so many American flags which remind us how awesome it is to be an American! Here are some pictures from along the road:
For the first time on the trip, we decided to finally camp out! Concurrently, it was the first time it rained on the trip, go figure... More pictures tomorrow

Jess, I accidently left another message on your first day visit, its about a job, be sure to read it.
Love you.
It's so funny to see some of the spots that you've stopped at...like the giant cross. I've been right through there with work before. haha I just didn't get to see quite as much since I was kind of rushing through to get to my next event. It's awesome though. I'm glad you two get to experience the drive.
Continue to have fun and share with us.
Monica
